    2         A resolution recognizing Hillsborough Community
    3         College on the occasion of its 50th anniversary.
    4  
    5         WHEREAS, on October 4, 1967, Hillsborough Junior College
    6  was founded and on September 30, 1968, the college opened its
    7  doors to 1,625 students in temporary facilities at Hillsborough
    8  High School in Tampa, and
    9         WHEREAS, the college’s board of trustees voted in 1970 to
   10  change the institution’s name to Hillsborough Community College
   11  to better reflect its philosophy and mission, and
   12         WHEREAS, over the past 50 years, Hillsborough Community
   13  College has grown to become the first choice in higher education
   14  for graduates of Hillsborough County public schools and for
   15  students from across the state and from around the globe, and is
   16  the largest community college feeder to the University of South
   17  Florida, and
   18         WHEREAS, today, Hillsborough Community College serves more
   19  than 45,000 students from more than 130 countries, offering 180
   20  academic programs at five unique campuses and three training
   21  centers across the county, and
   22         WHEREAS, through its many programs, Hillsborough Community
   23  College has educated 20,000 health care providers, 5,000
   24  educators, and 15,000 public safety workers, and has inspired
   25  many of its graduates to become productive and vital members of
   26  their communities, and
   27         WHEREAS, with more than 84 percent of its graduates
   28  remaining in Hillsborough County, Hillsborough Community College
   29  is a vibrant economic engine, generating an annual economic
   30  impact of more than $1.3 billion for the area, NOW, THEREFORE,

   32  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

   34         That Hillsborough Community College is congratulated on the
   35  occasion of its 50th anniversary.
