    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution recognizing Saturday, September 27, 2014,
    3         and the last Saturday of September each year
    4         thereafter, as the Green Apple Day of Service in
    5         Florida.

    7         WHEREAS, the Green Apple Day of Service, conceived by the
    8  Center for Green Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council
    9  (USGBC), has provided a focal point for communities to transform
   10  school environments to make them healthier, more sustainable
   11  places to learn, and
   12         WHEREAS, in its 2012 inaugural year, more than 1,250
   13  communities, spanning all 50 states and 49 countries, hosted
   14  Green Apple Day of Service projects to improve our schools
   15  through environmental education and community events, and
   16         WHEREAS, the Center for Green Schools has collaborated with
   17  partners from the public, private, and nonprofit sectors to
   18  share community project ideas and step-by-step instructions for
   19  organizing school service projects, and
   20         WHEREAS, on September 27, 2014, the USGBC will organize the
   21  third Green Apple Day of Service, when green school advocates
   22  from across the country and around the world, including USGBC
   23  chapters, international green building councils, elected
   24  officials, teachers, parents, and students, will come together
   25  in support of green schools by taking action in their
   26  communities, NOW, THEREFORE,

   28  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

   30         That Saturday, September 27, 2014, and the last Saturday of
   31  September each year thereafter, is recognized as the Green Apple
   32  Day of Service in Florida, and the efforts of the Center for
   33  Green Schools to make schools a healthier environment for
   34  student growth and education are commended.
