    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution urging President Donald Trump to rescind
    3         all executive orders signed by him related to
    4         immigration.
    5  
    6         WHEREAS, all Americans, other than Native Americans, are
    7  immigrants or descendants of immigrants, and nearly one in five
    8  Floridians immigrated to this state after being born outside of
    9  the United States, and
   10         WHEREAS, the Florida Constitution guarantees that no person
   11  may be deprived of any right because of race, religion, or
   12  national origin; guarantees the free exercise of religion; and
   13  guarantees that no person may be deprived of life, liberty, or
   14  property without due process of law, and
   15         WHEREAS, immigrants fleeing political and religious
   16  persecution have come to Florida throughout its history,
   17  contributing immeasurably to the welfare and prosperity of this
   18  state, and
   19         WHEREAS, immigrants seeking shelter from the oppressive
   20  regimes of Fidel Castro in Cuba and other Latin-American
   21  dictators came to Florida seeking freedom, infusing this state
   22  with vibrant diversity, and
   23         WHEREAS, immigrants who survived the Nazi Holocaust, and
   24  their children and grandchildren, came to Florida to rebuild
   25  their lives and practice their religious beliefs without fear of
   26  persecution, and
   27         WHEREAS, these and other immigrants who have come to
   28  Florida’s shores, ports, and cities seeking opportunity have
   29  become leaders of government, business, industry, and academia,
   30  and many current members of the Florida Legislature are
   31  descendants of immigrants who sought refuge on these shores, and
   32         WHEREAS, Florida’s economy depends on the hard work and
   33  entrepreneurship of immigrants, and one in four business owners
   34  in this state, and nearly one in four workers, are immigrants,
   35  and
   36         WHEREAS, if all unauthorized immigrants were removed from
   37  this state, Florida would lose $43.9 billion in economic
   38  activity, $19.5 billion in gross state product, and
   39  approximately 262,436 jobs, and
   40         WHEREAS, Florida’s 36,249 foreign students contributed $1.1
   41  billion to the state’s economy in tuition, fees, and living
   42  expenses in the 2013-2014 academic year, NOW, THEREFORE,
   43  
   44  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
   45  
   46         That President Donald Trump is urged to rescind all
   47  executive orders signed by him related to immigration.
   48         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of State dispatch
   49  a copy of this resolution, with the Seal of the Senate affixed,
   50  to the President of the United States, the President and
   51  Secretary of the United States Senate, and the Speaker and Clerk
   52  of the United States House of Representatives as a tangible
   53  token of the sentiments of the Florida Senate.
