2A resolution designating May 13, 2010, as "Florida
3Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Day."

5 WHEREAS, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR)
6is a Department of Defense organization whose committee members
7volunteer their time in support of the men and women of the
8National Guard and reserves, their families, and their
9employers, and
10 WHEREAS, the ESGR seeks to promote a culture in which
11employers throughout the nation support and place appropriate
12value upon the military service of their employees as they
13defend our nation and provide for our national security, and
14 WHEREAS, ESGR was established in 1972 as an agency of the
15United States Department of Defense and is funded by the
16department, and
17 WHEREAS, the organization constantly endeavors to gain and
18maintain employer support for National Guard and reserve service
19by recognizing outstanding support of such servicemembers and
20increasing awareness of the importance of that support, and
21 WHEREAS, the Florida ESGR committee provides support to the
2237,000 reserve members who serve in the Air National Guard, Air
23Force Reserve, Army National Guard, Army Reserve, Coast Guard
24Reserve, Marine Corp Reserve, and Navy Reserve, and
25 WHEREAS, in 2009, the more than 130 volunteers of the
26Florida ESGR committee worked a total of 8,782 hours to
27accomplish various tasks in support of the state's National
28Guard members and reservists, and
29 WHEREAS, supportive employers are critical to maintaining
30the strength and readiness of our National Guard and reserve
31units and ESGR is an invaluable resource for both employers and
32the National Guard and military reserve members that works for
33them, and
34 WHEREAS, employers and members of ESGR are provided
35assistance by volunteers across the state under the authority of
36the federal Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment
37Rights Act (USERRA), and
38 WHEREAS, volunteers assist employers and members of ESGR in
39familiarizing themselves with the resources and services that
40ESGR provides and encourage members and employers to take
41advantage of this information and assistance should the need
42ever arise, and
43 WHEREAS, ESGR's employer outreach volunteers provide
44information, education, and services for employers through
45programs across the state, and
46 WHEREAS, ESGR also has an awards program designed to
47acknowledge the efforts of employers to support their military
48employees, and
49 WHEREAS, ESGR's military outreach volunteers provide
50National Guard and military reserve members with important
51information about their rights and responsibilities under USERRA
52and about ESGR programs and services, and
53 WHEREAS, ESGR-trained volunteer ombudsmen provide
54information, confidential counseling, and neutral mediation
55relating to compliance with USERRA requirements, and
56 WHEREAS, Florida employer support for the National Guard
57and reserve honors our courageous guardsmen and reservists, the
58continued support of whom is vital to the success of our Armed
59Forces and to the strength of the nation, and
60 WHEREAS, it is essential not only to maintain employer
61support for members of the Florida National Guard and military
62reserves by recognizing outstanding contributions and efforts by
63employers, increasing awareness of the laws that support Florida
64National Guard and military reserve service, and resolving
65conflicts through mediation, it is equally essential to
66continually strive to increase such support, and
67 WHEREAS, it is fitting and appropriate for the Florida
68House of Representatives to express its full support for the
69Florida Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve organization
70and, in furtherance of that support, designate a day in honor of
71the organization and its volunteers, NOW, THEREFORE,

73Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
74Florida:

76 That the House of Representatives of the State of Florida
77designates May 13, 2010, as "Florida Employer Support of the
78Guard and Reserve Day."
79 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of
80the State of Florida urges all Floridians to learn more about
81the Florida Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve
82organization and the resources and services it provides, and to
83take advantage of the information and assistance offered by the
84organization in support of the members of the Florida National
85Guard and the military reserves and their employers in the State
86of Florida.
