5 | WHEREAS, an estimated 450 men die from breast cancer each |
6 | year, a number that is expected only to increase, and |
7 | WHEREAS, breast cancer is widely believed to be a disease |
8 | confined to women, and due to a general lack of awareness that |
9 | men can also develop breast cancer, men are typically diagnosed |
10 | during the disease's later stages, and |
11 | WHEREAS, promoting awareness and education about male |
12 | breast cancer is crucial to improving the health and well-being |
13 | of men throughout the state and nation, facilitating earlier |
14 | detection, improving the prognoses of men who have been |
15 | diagnosed with the disease, and ultimately preventing further |
16 | loss of life, and |
17 | WHEREAS, in remembrance of the many men who have lost their |
18 | lives to breast cancer, and in support of those who are |
19 | currently fighting this often overlooked disease, every citizen, |
20 | whether male or female, including parents, siblings, spouses, |
21 | educators, and physicians, is encouraged to take part in |
22 | spreading awareness of male breast cancer, NOW, THEREFORE, |

24 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
25 | Florida: |

27 | That October 17-23, 2011, is designated as "Male Breast |
28 | Cancer Awareness Week" in the State of Florida. |
