1	House Resolution
2	A resolution designating the week of May 9-15, 2010, as
3	Food Allergy Awareness Week in Florida.

5	WHEREAS, food allergy is a growing public health concern in
6	the United States, and
7	WHEREAS, more than 12 million Americans, or 4 percent of
8	the population, have food allergies, and
9	WHEREAS, the incidence of food allergy is highest in young
10	children and it is believed that approximately 3 million
11	children in the United States have food allergies, and
12	WHEREAS, eight foods, including milk, eggs, peanuts, tree
13	nuts, wheat, soy, fish, and shellfish, account for 90 percent of
14	all food-allergic reactions, and
15	WHEREAS, there is no cure for food allergies, but
16	avoidance, early recognition, and the management of reactions
17	are vital measures needed to prevent serious health
18	consequences, and
19	WHEREAS, food allergies have life-altering consequences and
20	require that everyone involved be vigilant in protecting their
21	health, NOW, THEREFORE,

23	Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
24	Florida:

26	That the House of Representatives designates the week of
27	May 9-15, 2010, as Food Allergy Awareness Week in Florida, a
28	week dedicated to educating Floridians about food allergies.
