2A resolution recognizing and honoring the outstanding
3public service and lifetime achievements of Frederick H.
4Schultz.

6 WHEREAS, Frederick H. Schultz, a Jacksonville native born
7on January 16, 1929, was a graduate of Jacksonville's Bolles
8School and Princeton University and attended the University of
9Florida College of Law, and
10 WHEREAS, before entering law school, Frederick H. Schultz
11joined the United States Army, serving as an artillery officer
12in the Korean Conflict and earning a Bronze Star, and
13 WHEREAS, Frederick H. Schultz embarked on a remarkable
14business career that included founding Florida Wire and Cable,
15Platt Pontiac, and Florida Trend Magazine and serving as a
16director of Barnett Bank, American Heritage Life, Southeast
17Atlantic Beverage, Transco Energy, and Florida Steel, and
18 WHEREAS, Frederick H. Schultz was elected to the Florida
19House of Representatives in 1963, where his leadership abilities
20were immediately recognized and he enjoyed a rapid rise to
21prominence, culminating with his election as Speaker of the
22House of Representatives in 1968, and
23 WHEREAS, a longtime advocate of education, Frederick H.
24Schultz sponsored legislation that created the University of
25North Florida and what is now Florida State College at
26Jacksonville and worked to improve the method for funding public
27education, and
28 WHEREAS, focused on education as a vehicle for improving
29the community, Frederick H. Schultz established the Schultz
30Center for Teaching and Leadership, a professional development
31facility for teachers and school leaders in Northeast Florida,
32and
33 WHEREAS, United States President Jimmy Carter nominated
34Frederick H. Schultz to the Federal Reserve Board and, as
35President Carter's "right-hand man at the Fed" from 1979 to
361982, Frederick H. Schultz helped set the nation's monetary
37policy, and
38 WHEREAS, during his many years of service to his community,
39Frederick H. Schultz served as Chairman of the Jacksonville Area
40Chamber of Commerce and spearheaded the founding of Leadership
41Jacksonville and the Jacksonville Community Council, and
42 WHEREAS, Frederick H. Schultz died on November 23, 2009,
43leaving a distinguished legacy of excellence in business and
44public service to community, state, and country, NOW, THEREFORE,

46Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
47Florida:

49 That the House of Representatives recognizes and honors the
50outstanding public service and lifetime achievements of
51Frederick H. Schultz.
52 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
53presented to Mrs. Nancy Schultz as a tangible token of the
54sentiments expressed herein.
