149th GENERAL ASSEMBLY
SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 22
CALLING UPON THE DELAWARE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORATION TO UNDERTAKE THE PLANNING PROCESS TO MAKE IMPROVMENTS TO DOUBLE BRIDGES ROAD IN FRANKFORD.
WHEREAS, the volume of vehicular traffic in Sussex County has been increasing drastically for many years; and
WHEREAS, the rate of increase in traffic on Double Bridges Road shows no signs of abating and is likely to continue escalating for the foreseeable future; and
WHEREAS, tourist activity is at the forefront of the economy in Sussex County; and
WHEREAS, tourists and locals alike utilize Double Bridges Road as a means of bike travel from Bethany Beach to Route 54; and
WHEREAS, there are no shoulders or means of safe passage for bicyclists on Double Bridges Road; and
WHEREAS, a substantial risk to the safety of our citizens and tourists remains along this travel corridor; despite the rapid development which Southern Delaware has experienced in recent decades, particularly Bethany Beach.
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 149 th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, with the approval of the Governor, that the members do hereby strongly urge the Delaware Department of Transportation to immediately undertake a study to determine the feasibility of, and provide cost estimates for, widening and creating a shoulder/bike path along the length of Double Bridges Road.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Delaware Department of Transportation is hereby requested to provide a preliminary report as to their progress to members of the Delaware General Assembly on or before February 1, 2019 and a final report as soon thereafter as practicable.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitably prepared copy of this Resolution be directed to the Secretary of the Department of Transportation upon its passage.
SYNOPSIS
This resolution calls upon the Delaware Department of Transportation to immediately undertake a study to determine the feasibility of, and provide cost estimates for, widening and creating a shoulder/bike path along the length of Double Bridges Road.
