SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 70

RECOGNIZING THAT OCTOBER IS THE AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS' "NATIONAL ADOPT A SHELTER DOG MONTH" AND THE AMERICAN HUMANE ASSOCIATION'S "ADOPT-A-DOG MONTH" AND ENCOURAGING THE ADOPTION OF SHELTER AND RESCUE DOGS IN DELAWARE.

WHEREAS, 3.9 million dogs enter animal shelters every year in the United States; and

WHEREAS, 1.2 million adoptable dogs are euthanized each year in the United States due to lack of good homes; and

WHEREAS, most dogs that come to shelters are there due to owners' personal circumstances, not due to any fault of their own; and

WHEREAS, mixed-breed dogs are at substantially lower risk for genetic diseases than purebred dogs, and live longer on average; and

WHEREAS, animal shelters offer vaccinated and spayed or neutered dogs that have been screened for health and temperament problems; and

WHEREAS, adopting a shelter or rescue dog is a generous act that saves innocent life;

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 148^th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House concurring therein, that the month of October is the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals' "National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month" and the American Humane Association's "Adopt-a-Dog Month" and Delawareans are encouraged to adopt shelter and rescue dogs.

SYNOPSIS

This Resolution recognizes that October is the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals' "National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month" and the American Humane Association's "Adopt-a-Dog Month" and encourages the adoption of shelter and rescue dogs in Delaware.
