SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 51 |
WELCOMING MEMBERS OF TEAM DELDOT TO THE 147TH GENERAL ASSEMBLY AND EXPRESSING UTMOST GRATITUDE FOR THEIR TIRELESS WORK DURING THE HARSH WINTER OF 2013-2014. |
WHEREAS, the winter of 2013-2014 was one of the harshest winters on record in Delaware; and
WHEREAS, during this harsh winter, employees of the Delaware Department of Transportation (Team DelDOT) worked together to clear 13,731 lane miles of snow and 267 miles of sidewalk; and
WHEREAS, before, during, and after weather events, Team DelDOT utilized more than 100,728 tons of salt valued at more than $6.5 million; and
WHEREAS, before, during, and after weather events, 571 members of Team DelDOT worked 112,356 hours of overtime at a cost of nearly $3.4 million; and
WHEREAS, snow plowing and the maintenance of heavy equipment pose inherent risks to members of Team DelDOT; and
WHEREAS, while many Delawareans remained safely indoors alongside family and free from winter winds and freezing temperatures, members of Team DelDOT braved the elements and spent hours on end away from loved ones; and
WHEREAS, were Delaware's roadways and sidewalks not cleared quickly and reliably, Delaware's economy and Delaware's citizens would experience unnecessary hardship; and
WHEREAS, a tranquil, white winter morning often belies an exhausting prior evening of plowing;
WHEREAS, having endured the wintry snows and frigid temperatures and enjoying now this fine weather of May, may our gratitude for the dedication and efforts of Team DelDOT abide;
NOW THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 147th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that the members do hereby commend and express their utmost and sincere gratitude to the employees of the Delaware Department of Transportation for their tireless efforts to keep the Delaware's roads and sidewalks clear, economy vibrant, and motorists safe during the harsh winter of 2013-2014.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members do hereby encourage all Delawareans to assist the employees of the Delaware Department of Transportation by taking all reasonable efforts to minimize travel during and immediately after winter weather events.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Senate Concurrent Resolution be presented to representatives of the Department of Transportation upon its enactment by the General Assembly.

This concurrent resolution commends and thanks the employees of the Delaware Department of Transportation for their tireless efforts to keep Delaware's roads and sidewalks clear, economy vibrant, and motorists safe during the harsh winter of 2013-2014. |
