DELAWARE STATE SENATE

147th GENERAL ASSEMBLY

SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 45

RECOGNIZING THE 35TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE JOBS FOR DELAWARE GRADUATES PROGRAM.



WHEREAS, Jobs for Delaware Graduates program, also known as JDG, began in 1979 under the direction of Governor Pierre duPont, as a school to work dropout prevention program teaching employability skills to graduating seniors in Delaware high schools throughout the State of Delaware, and

WHEREAS, Jobs for Delaware Graduates expanded its services to 9th through 12th graders in 1992 to provide more assistance in preventing students from dropping out of high school and reaching the goal of high school graduation, and

WHEREAS, Jobs for Delaware Graduates also serves students through James H. Groves High School and foster youth through DSCYF, and

WHEREAS, Jobs for Delaware Graduates, through the leadership of Governor Jack Markell has expanded its leadership and career planning training programs to middle schools programs throughout the state of Delaware, and

WHEREAS, Jobs for Delaware Graduates will serve over 3,000 students during the 2013-2014 school year, and

WHEREAS, with the success of Jobs for Delaware Graduates after the initial years, provided the model for a national network to be created under the name of Jobs for America's Graduates to replicate the JDG program in other states in the United States of America, and

WHEREAS, the program that began in Delaware, Jobs for Delaware Graduates, has been replicated in 32 other states and the Virgin Islands through the works of Jobs for America's Graduates, and

WHEREAS, the Jobs for Delaware Graduates has served over 48,000 students during its 35 years of service, and

WHEREAS, that Jobs for Delaware Graduates has been serving the youth of Delaware for 35 years.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the 147th General Assembly, the House of Representatives concurring therein, recognizes the 35th Anniversary of the Jobs for Delaware Graduates Program.
