DELAWARE STATE SENATE

148th GENERAL ASSEMBLY

SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 23

RECOGNIZING JUNE 6, 2015, AS "MASON-DIXON DAY" IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE.



WHEREAS, June 6, 2015, is the 250th anniversary of Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon setting the wooden post that permanently established the boundary between Maryland and Pennsylvania and ended a long and contentious dispute; and

WHEREAS, the post location became the Tri-State Marker between Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland; and

WHEREAS, the Mason-Dixon Line became the demarcation symbol between the North and South during the Civil War; and

WHEREAS, a newly-established hiking trail to the Tri-State Marker will provide public access to the site; and

WHEREAS, the dedication ceremony of the new hiking trail will be on National Trails Day, June 6, 2015, at
11:00 a.m.; and

WHEREAS, many organizations and volunteers worked together to make the trail a reality, including Delaware and Pennsylvania State Parks, the Friends of the White Clay Creek Preserve, and the Wilmington Trail Club; and

WHEREAS, the General Assembly wishes to acknowledge the importance of the Mason-Dixon Tri-State Marker and the newly-established trail providing public access to this historical monument.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 148th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that National Trails Day, June 6, 2015, is established as "Mason-Dixon Day" in the State of Delaware.


SYNOPSIS

This concurrent resolution designates National Trails Day, June 6, 2015, as "Mason-Dixon Day" in the State of Delaware.
