SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 155

RECOGNIZING MAY 9, 2024, AS DELAWARE LOCAL GOVERNMENT DAY IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE.

WHEREAS, the Delaware League of Local Governments (“the League”), which is made up of the 57 local municipalities and 3 counties, remains the leading organization to ensure that the strong partnership remains vibrant; and

WHEREAS, since 1963, the League, along with the Sussex County Association of Towns, continue to be dynamic resources for local government advocacy, education, engagement, and best practices, providing a platform for citizen engagement and participation in the democratic process; and

WHEREAS, the League’s mission is to strengthen and support Delaware’s local governments through effective leadership and advocacy, and to improve everyday life for all Delawareans; and

WHEREAS, the strong partnership between local government and state government remains critical to ensuring a sound quality of life for all Delawareans, fostering civic engagement and participation in preserving the foundation of democratic governance; and

WHEREAS, our local governments, on a daily basis, are on the frontline of public service throughout the State, the significance stemming from their close connection to the people they serve and their responsibility for essential service delivery and community development; and

WHEREAS, our local elected leaders show passion, desire, and resolve to ensure that our local communities thrive, energetically connecting ideas, people, and stakeholders; and

WHEREAS, our local elected leaders perform their considerable duties, often working in their spare time, with little-to-no payment and limited resources, balancing competing priorities and maintaining fiscal sustainability; and

WHEREAS, through advocacy at the state level, the League proactively represents local governments to help sustain highly livable, desirable, and vibrant communities, and develop a strong, collective voice to advocate for Delaware’s local governments.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 152nd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that May 9, 2024, is hereby recognized as Delaware Local Government Day in the State of Delaware.
