AN ACT TO AMEND TITLE 14 OF THE |
WHEREAS, parental involvement in children's education is essential to the overall development, well-being and educational success of children; and
WHEREAS, the State of Delaware wishes to
encourage schools to make vigorous, formal efforts to emphasi
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE
STATE OF
Section 1.Amend Title 14, Section 157 of the Delaware Code by inserting subsection (e) as follows:
"(e)Every
school implementing or maintaining a curriculum or materials, whether brought
or introduced by school educators, administrators, and officials, or by guests
invited at their request, which involve human sexuality issues, profanity,
sexual acts, violence, drugs and/or alcohol, shall adopt a policy ensuring
parental guardian notification no less than 48 hours prior to introduction or
instructional use.Such policy shall
afford parents or guardians the flexibility to exempt their children from any
portion of said curriculum or materials through notification to the school
principal.No child so exempted shall be

SYNOPSIS
This Bill would require schools to notify parents of information being taught to their children relating to human sexuality issues, sexual acts, profanity, violence, drugs and/or alcohol.Such policy would ensure parent/guardian notification no less than 48 hours prior to introduction or instructional use.Such policy would afford parents or guardians the flexibility to exempt their children from any portion of said curriculum or materials through notification to the school principal. |
