HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 88

RECOGNIZING THE NATIONAL COALITION OF 100 BLACK WOMEN INC., DELAWARE CHAPTER, FOR ITS DEDICATION TO IMPROVING THE LIVES OF BLACK WOMEN AND GIRLS IN DELAWARE.

WHEREAS, the National Coalition of 100 Black Women Inc., Delaware Chapter, (“Delaware Chapter”) is a local affiliate of a nationally recognized nonprofit organization with 59 other affiliate chapters across the United States; and

WHEREAS, the Delaware Chapter was chartered 23 years ago in 1995, and has worked to advocate on behalf of Black women and girls through national and local actions and strategic alliances that promote leadership development and gender equity in the areas of health, education, and economic empowerment; and

WHEREAS, the Delaware Chapter promotes equitable policy and civic engagement for Black women and girls through researching and advocating for legislation, promoting voter education and participation, and increasing the number of Black women engaged in civic affairs, serving on commissions, and various decision-making bodies; and

WHEREAS, the Delaware Chapter has fundraised and distributed in excess of $200,000 in scholarships, has supported the Office of Women’s Advancement and Advocacy, and recently has released a publication, The State of Our Union: Black Women and Girls in Delaware ; and

WHEREAS, The State of Our Union: Black Women and Girls in Delaware report is the first of its kind, intending to foster understanding of the challenges Black women and girls face and to promote solutions to ensure that Black women and girls achieve parity; and

WHEREAS, the Delaware Chapter educates stakeholders about the disparities affecting Black women, Black girls and their families and also leads collaborative efforts to eradicate disparities wherever they exist; and

WHEREAS, the General Assembly agrees with the Delaware Chapter’s belief that when we improve the lives of Black women and girls, we all benefit measurably as a state.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 149 th General Assembly, the Senate concurring therein, that the National Coalition of 100 Black Women Inc., Delaware Chapter, is recognized for their advocacy, leadership, and efforts to strengthen our state by improving the lives of Black women and girls.

SYNOPSIS

This Concurrent Resolution recognizes the National Coalition of 100 Black Women Inc., Delaware Chapter for its dedication to improving the lives of Black women and girls in Delaware through advocacy, civic engagement, and other community-building initiatives.
