HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 82

RECOGNIZING THE HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 2020, AND THE CHALLENGES THEY FACED DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC IN DELAWARE.

WHEREAS, the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic led to a statewide executive order issued to reduce communicability of the virus by mandated school closures; and

WHEREAS, students attending public and charter high schools in Delaware including Alexis I. du Pont High School, Appoquinimink High School, Brandywine High School, Cab Calloway School of the Arts, Caesar Rodney High School, Cape Henlopen High School, Charter School of Wilmington, Christiana High School, Concord High School, Conrad Schools of Science, Delaware Military Academy, Delaware School for the Deaf, Delcastle Technical High School, Delmar High School, Dover High School, Early College High School at Del State, First State Military Academy, Freire Charter School, Glasgow High School, Howard High School of Technology, Indian River High School, John Dickinson School, Lake Forest High School, Laurel Senior High School, Middletown High School, Milford Senior High School, MOT Charter High School, Mount Pleasant High School, Newark Charter School, Newark High School, Odyssey Charter School, Paul M. Hodgson Vocational Technical High School, POLYTECH High School, Positive Outcomes Charter School, Seaford Senior High School, Smyrna High School, St. Georges Technical High School, Sussex Academy of Arts and Sciences, Sussex Central High School, Sussex Technical High School, Thomas McKean High School, William Penn High School, and Woodbridge High School; and

WHEREAS, students attending private high schools in Delaware including Archmere Academy, Caravel Academy, Centreville Layton School, Delmarva Christian High School, Padua Academy, Red Lion Christian Academy, St. Andrews School, St. Marks High School, Salesianum School, Sanford School, St. Thomas More Academy, Tatnall School, Tower Hill School, Ursuline Academy, Wilmington Christian School, and Wilmington Friends School, endured the abrupt change to a remove education experience; and

WHEREAS, high school seniors sacrificed the full duration of a distinctive high school experience including participation in social events, sporting events and community service activities for the safety and welfare of Delaware residents; and

WHEREAS, the high school senior class of 2020 will be commended for exhibiting patience and resilience by complying with unusual stay at home orders.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 150th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that the high school class of 2020, be recognized as pioneers of new social norms and practitioners of strength during these uncertain times.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that members of the Senate and the House of Representatives send their profound gratitude and heartfelt congratulations to the high school class of 2020 in Delaware.
