RECOGNIZING NOVEMBER 2015 AS "PANCREATIC CANCER AWARENESS MONTH" IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE. |
WHEREAS, in 2015 an estimated 46,420 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the United States and approximately 39,590 people will die from the disease, with approximately 130 pancreatic cancer-related deaths occurring in Delaware; and
WHEREAS, the incidence and death rate for pancreatic cancer are increasing and are anticipated to move from the fourth to the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States by 2020; and
WHEREAS, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is the first and only national patient advocacy organization that serves the pancreatic cancer community in the State of Delaware and nationwide by focusing its efforts on public policy, research funding, patient services, and public awareness and education related to developing effective treatments and a cure for pancreatic cancer; and
WHEREAS, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and its affiliates in the State of Delaware support those patients currently battling pancreatic cancer, as well as to those who have lost their lives to the disease, and are committed to nothing less than a cure; and
WHEREAS, the good health and well-being of the residents of the State of Delaware are enhanced as a direct result of increased awareness about pancreatic cancer and research into early detection, causes, and effective treatments;
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 148th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that the Legislature hereby recognizes November 2015 as "Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month" in the State.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature encourages expanded efforts to keep Delaware residents properly informed about the disease's symptom recognition and treatment.
