HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 31

RECOGNIZING MARCH 30, 2019 AS "ENDOMETRIOSIS AWARENESS DAY" IN DELAWARE.

WHEREAS, March marks Endometriosis Awareness month, a month to raise global awareness of what

Endometriosis is, what it is like for those who have Endometriosis, to help and support those who have Endometriosis, and to highlight the need for more research to find a cure for this awful disease; and

WHEREAS, about 1 in 10 women suffer from this disease; and

WHEREAS, internationally 200 million women have been diagnosed with Endometriosis; and

WHEREAS, it can take 7-10 years to be officially diagnosed with Endometriosis; and

WHEREAS, although 200 million women have been recorded to have Endometriosis, there are significantly more

women in the world that have Endometriosis and have not been able to get a diagnosis; and

WHEREAS, Endometriosis is a condition in which tissue similar to the lining inside the uterus (called “the endometrium”), is found outside the uterus, where it induces a chronic inflammatory reaction that may result in scar tissue. It is primarily found on the pelvic peritoneum, on the ovaries, in the recto-vaginal septum, on the bladder, and bowel. In very rare cases it has been found on the diaphragm and in the lungs; and

WHEREAS, women in Delaware who have endometriosis are still going to work, and trying to function normally on a day to day basis, they are in excruciating pain, chronically fatigued, have a heavy menstruation flow, and much more; and

WHEREAS, those are just a few of the symptoms, more include: intense cramping, back pain, bloating,

constipation, depression, diarrhea, dysmenorrhea, excessive bleeding, fatigue, headaches, heavy menstruation, infertility, leg pain, nausea, painful periods, painful intercourse, painful urination, pelvic pain, weight gain, and more; and

WHEREAS, women who have Endometriosis are researching, asking for support, and trying to find relief, it is vital that we bring more awareness and medical research to this “invisible” disease; and

WHEREAS, together the #ENDOSISTERHOOD is strong, but it is time for it to be stronger; and

WHEREAS, bringing awareness to this disease can help develop more research, give support for those who have it, educate our young women, and more.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 150th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that March 30, 2019 is designated as “Endometriosis Awareness Day”.

SYNOPSIS

This resolution recognizes March 30, 2019 as Endometriosis Awareness Day in Delaware to help raise awareness, gain research, and show support to its sufferers.
