Summary

As introduced, this bill requires OSSE to establish a dyslexia screening, treatment, and prevention pilot program to begin in the 2018-2019 school year. The pilot program would include annual universal dyslexia screening for students in pre-k through third grade; progress monitoring of students identified with characteristics of dyslexia or related disorders; and implementation of remediation and intervention strategies, along with related training and professional development for teachers. OSSE is required to submit reports to the Mayor and the Council regarding the success of the program and whether the program should be implemented throughout the District.
