AN ACT CONCERNING THE CREATION OF A REMEDIAL LITERACY PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS IN KINDERGARTEN TO GRADE THREE IN PRIORITY SCHOOL DISTRICTS.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That chapter 164 of the general statutes be amended to create a remedial literacy program that shall (1) be available for students who are struggling to learn how to read in grades kindergarten to three, inclusive, in priority school districts, and (2) offer a reading horizons reading workshop that provides instruction for English teachers on new methods of teaching reading to students who are struggling to learn how to read.
Statement of Purpose:
To create a remedial literacy program that helps students who are struggling to learn how to read and to prepare educators for the particular needs of a remedial classroom.
