AN ACT INCREASING PENALTIES FOR THE UNLAWFUL RELEASE OF SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That title 53a of the general statutes be amended to provide increased penalties for the unlawful release of Social Security numbers when such unlawful release is part of a large data breach resulting in one thousand or more Social Security numbers being released publicly.

Statement of Purpose:

To protect the public from identity theft.
