AN ACT CONCERNING PRESCRIPTION DRUG MONITORING, CONTINUING EDUCATION AND THE RETURN OF UNUSED PRESCRIPTION DRUGS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That the general statutes be amended to require (1) health care providers who are authorized to prescribe controlled substances to (A) complete continuing education courses in prescription drugs and pain management, (B) register for access to the prescription drug monitoring program before being permitted to renew their licenses, and (C) utilize the prescription drug monitoring program or risk revocation of their licenses, and (2) pharmacies to allow the return of unused prescription drugs.

Statement of Purpose:

To reduce prescription drug abuse.
