AN ACT CONCERNING CERTAIN OPERATORS OF MOTOR VEHICLES AND ELIGIBILITY FOR UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That subdivision (5) of subsection (a) of section 31-222 of the general statutes be amended to include owner/operators of motor vehicles with a minimum gross vehicle weight of ten thousand pounds and who transport property, at least in part, in interstate commerce among the enumerated types of service or employment that are expressly excluded from the provisions of chapter 567 of the general statutes.

Statement of Purpose:

To create an exception in the workers' compensation statutes for owner/operators of motor vehicles with a minimum gross vehicle weight of ten thousand pounds and who transport property, at least in part, in interstate commerce thereby enabling Connecticut-based trucking businesses to better compete with national competitors.
