AN ACT CONCERNING THE CONNECTICUT MEDICAL EXAMINING BOARD.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That section 20-8a of the general statutes be amended to require that: (1) The Governor make six appointments to the board, legislative leadership make six appointments to the board and patient advocacy groups make three appointments to the board; (2) board reappointments or replacements be distributed among appointing authorities in the same ratio; (3) of the fifteen members on the board, at least one be a patient advocate who is not a physician, and at least one be an attorney with expertise in the practice of criminal law; (4) the board complete investigations and take appropriate action not later than six months after the filing of a complaint; and (5) the board contact the Chief State's Attorney if it appears that an individual currently or formerly under investigation violated state criminal statutes.
Statement of Purpose:
To improve the effectiveness of the Connecticut Medical Examining Board and strengthen patient protection in the state.
