AN ACT CONCERNING THE ALIGNMENT OF EDUCATION CURRICULA AND PROGRAMS AND WORKFORCE NEEDS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. (Effective from passage) The Labor Department, in consultation with the Board of Regents for Higher Education and the Department of Education, shall conduct a study of existing educational opportunities and the workforce needs of the state. The department shall examine the curricula and programs offered at public high schools, the Technical Education and Career System and the regional community-technical college system to determine whether such curricula and programs are providing career-oriented instruction, preparing students for apprenticeship programs or employment and meeting the workforce needs of businesses and industries in the state. Not later than January 1, 2019, the department shall submit such study and any recommendations for legislation to the joint standing committees of the General Assembly having cognizance of matters relating to labor, education and higher education, in accordance with the provisions of section 11-4a of the general statutes.

This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections:
