AN ACT REQUIRING A STUDY OF THE USE OF MEDICAID TO PAY THE COST OF PREMIUMS FOR HEALTH INSURANCE SPONSORED BY A PUBLIC INSTITUTION OF HIGHER EDUCATION.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That the general statutes be amended to require the Department of Social Services, in collaboration with the Board of Regents for Higher Education and The University of Connecticut, to study the effectiveness of requiring Medicaid to pay the cost of premiums for health insurance sponsored by a constituent unit and provide supplemental health insurance coverage for students enrolled in a constituent unit who are (1) not covered by any other health insurance plan, and (2) eligible for state Medicaid benefits.

Statement of Purpose:

To study the feasibility of using Medicaid funds to pay health insurance costs for medically-indigent students.
