AN ACT INCREASING THE PENALTIES FOR OPERATING A MOTOR VEHICLE UNDER THE INFLUENCE WHEN A CHILD IS A PASSENGER OR WHEN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH OF A CHILD RESULTS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That the general statutes be amended to increase the penalty for any person who, while operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs, or both, (1) has a child under the age of sixteen years as a passenger in such motor vehicle, or (2) causes the serious physical injury or death of a child under the age of sixteen years.

Statement of Purpose:

To protect children from individuals who operate motor vehicles under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs.
