LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST

ACR 151, Voepel. Gubernatorial appointments: military service.
This measure would request that the Governor consider nominating individuals with military background to ensure military representation through appointments to appropriate state boards, councils, and commissions.
Fiscal Committee: NO

WHEREAS, Service in the United States Armed Forces is a unique experience that presents intense challenges and hardships, and builds and fosters personal characteristics that are equal to those challenges; and
WHEREAS, By virtue of that experience, veterans and current military service members offer leadership, attention to detail, performance under pressure, and a highly developed sense of the collective good over individual gain; and
WHEREAS, Veterans and current military service members have volunteered their lives for the public good, community safety, and national security; and
WHEREAS, Veterans and current military service members come from different fields of work and educational backgrounds, and can provide state boards, councils, and commissions with their strong skills in communication, teamwork, collaboration, adaptation, problem-solving, attention to detail, conflict resolution, and mission focus; and
WHEREAS, All of the above-stated qualities reflect the qualifications that are valuable to successful state boards, councils, and commissions; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate thereof concurring, That the Governor consider nominating individuals with military background to ensure military representation through appointments to appropriate state boards, councils, and commissions; and be it further
Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
