Existing law requires the governing board of a school district maintaining a high school to prescribe courses of study designed to provide the skills and knowledge required for adult life for pupils attending the schools within its school district.
This bill would make nonsubstantive changes to
this law.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:
SECTION 1.
Section 51210.6 is added to the Education Code, to read:51210.6.
Instruction in the skill of handwriting required as part of the adopted course of study for grades 1 to 6, inclusive, pursuant to subdivision (a) of Section 51210, shall include instruction in cursive or joined italics in grades 2 to 5, inclusive.SEC. 2.
If the Commission on State Mandates determines that this act contains costs mandated by the state, reimbursement to local agencies and school districts for those costs shall be made pursuant to Part 7 (commencing with Section 17500) of Division 4 of Title 2 of the Government Code.The governing board of a school district maintaining a high school shall prescribe courses of study designed to provide the skills and knowledge required for adult life for pupils attending the schools within its school district. The governing board of the school district shall prescribe separate courses of study, including, but not limited to, a course of study designed to prepare prospective pupils for admission to state colleges and universities and a course of study for career technical training.
