An act to amend Section 8670.8.3 of the Government Code, relating to coastal resources.

AB 255, Limón. Coastal resources: oil spills: grants.
The Lempert-Keene-Seastrand Oil Spill Prevention and Response Act authorizes the administrator for oil spill response to offer grants to a local government with jurisdiction over or directly adjacent to waters of the state to provide oil spill response equipment to be deployed by a certified local spill response manager, as provided.
This bill would provide that Native American tribes and other public entities are also eligible to receive those grants.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:


SECTION 1.

 Section 8670.8.3 of the Government Code is amended to read:

8670.8.3.
 The administrator may offer grants to a local government, Native American tribe, or other public entity with jurisdiction over or directly adjacent to waters of the state to provide oil spill response equipment to be deployed by a local spill response manager certified pursuant to Section 8670.8. The administrator may request the Legislature to appropriate funds from the Oil Spill Prevention and Administration Fund created pursuant to Section 8670.38 for the purposes of this section.
