SENATE RESOLUTION 1005

A RESOLUTION

on the death of phyllis schneck.

(TEXT OF BILL BEGINS ON NEXT PAGE)

Phyllis Schneck was killed on January 8, 2011 at the age of seventy‑nine during a horrendous assassination attempt on Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords' life.

A native of Rutherford, New Jersey, Phyllis Schneck and her husband spent their winters in Tucson, and she continued to return to Tucson even after the death of her husband in 2007.  A retired homemaker, Mrs. Schneck had raised three children and remained active as a talented quilter and cook and as a volunteer at her church.

Six innocent people, including Mrs. Schneck, were tragically killed on the morning of January 8, 2011, when a lone gunman began shooting those who had gathered at Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords' Congress on Your Corner event in Tucson.  This senseless attack has shocked and saddened all Americans, and the citizens of Arizona are in mourning.  Yet for many, their grief goes deeper than can be imagined as they face the terrible reality of the loss of innocent loved ones.  Phyllis Schneck will be greatly missed by her two daughters, her son, her seven grandchildren, her great-granddaughter and her many friends in the Tucson and Rutherford communities.

Therefore

Be it resolved by the Senate of the State of Arizona:

That the Members of the Senate sincerely regret the passing of Phyllis Schneck and extend their deepest sympathies to her family and many friends.
