An Act

 

appropriating monies to maricopa county community college district.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1. Appropriation; Maricopa county community college district; intent

A. The sum of $2,000,000 is appropriated from the state general fund in fiscal year 2023-2024 to Maricopa county community college district.

B. The legislature intends that:

1. The monies appropriated in subsection A of this section be used for:

(a) The achieving a college education program operated by Maricopa county community college district and that $500,000 of the monies appropriated in subsection A of this section be used for students in the program who are enrolled in career and technical education courses.

(b) To increase participation in the hoop of learning program in order to encourage, enable and create conditions that empower Native American students to complete high school and transition successfully to higher education.

2. The district spend the monies:

(a) To increase participation in the programs among high school students.

(b) To pay tuition costs for program participants to enroll in:

(i) Concurrent college courses.

(ii) Summer courses.

(iii) Weekend classes.

3. The programs result in an increased number of Native American students who complete high school and successfully transition to higher education and an increased college completion rate for students who participate in the programs.
