AN ACT
Requiring the department of health services to report on this state's newborn screening program.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:
Section 1. Department of health services; newborn screening; report; delayed repeal
A. On or before December 31, 2020, the department of health services, in conjunction with the newborn screening advisory committee prescribed by section 36-694, Arizona Revised Statutes, and the Arizona health care cost containment system administration, shall submit a report to the governor, the president of the senate, the speaker of the house of representatives and the chairpersons of the health and human services committees of the house of representatives and the senate, or their successor committees, and provide a copy of the report to the secretary of state, that includes the following for each disorder listed on the recommended uniform screening panel recommended by the secretary of the United States department of health and human services that is not included in the newborn screening program pursuant to section 36‑694, Arizona Revised Statutes:
1. An assessment of the number of newborn infants in this state impacted by each disorder listed on the recommended uniform screening panel.
2. An analysis of the process for adding disorders to the newborn screening panel in this state as they are listed on the recommended uniform screening panel recommended by the secretary of the United States department of health and human services.
3. An evaluation of any available newborn screening testing methodology and equipment.
4. An evaluation of the clinical or technological challenges associated with adding those screenings to this state's newborn screening program.
5. An assessment of the fee for the first and second screenings, including impacts to the Arizona health care cost containment system.
B. This section is repealed from and after June 30, 2021.
