AN ACT

 

Amending title 46, chapter 2, article 1, Arizona Revised Statutes, by adding section 46-219; relating to the supplemental nutrition assistance program.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Title 46, chapter 2, article 1, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 46-219, to read:

START_STATUTE46-219.  Supplemental nutrition assistance; fresh food bonus program; fund; program termination

A.  The department shall establish a fresh food bonus program for enrollees of the supplemental nutrition assistance program that will provide matching monies for an enrollee who purchases fresh fruits and vegetables at a farmers market.  The department may contract with a third party to administer the fresh food bonus program.  Subject to available monies, the fresh food bonus program shall provide matching monies to supplemental nutrition assistance program monies that are used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at a farmers market.  An enrollee in the supplemental nutrition assistance program may receive a maximum of ten dollars per market per day in matching monies.

B.  The fresh food bonus fund is established consisting of federal grants and private grants, gifts and donations.  The department shall administer the fund.  Monies in the fund are continuously appropriated.  The fund shall be used for the matching monies provided under the fresh food bonus program and any costs associated with the fresh food bonus program, including the administration and marketing of the fresh food bonus program.

C.  The fresh food bonus program established by this section ends on July 1, 2026 pursuant to section 41‑3102.END_STATUTE
