A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the route a school bus takes when transporting a public
  school student.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Chapter 34, Education Code, is amended by adding
  Section 34.0031 to read as follows:
         Sec. 34.0031.  SCHOOL BUS ROUTES. (a)  A school district
  shall design a route with approved stops to be taken by a school bus
  transporting a student between the student's residence and school
  campus.  The route designed by the district may not in any manner
  require a student to cross a highway or roadway between the
  student's residence and approved bus stop.
         (b)  If during a school year a new student is added to a
  school bus route, the school district shall update the school bus
  route as necessary to ensure that the route remains in compliance
  with Subsection (a).
         SECTION 2.  This Act applies beginning with the 2015-2016
  school year.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
  a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
  provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
  Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
  Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
