relating to the membership of the Texas Transportation Commission. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 201.051(b), Transportation Code, is | ||
amended to read as follows: | ||
(b) The members shall be appointed to reflect the diverse | ||
geographic regions and population groups of this state, including: | ||
(1) at least one [ |

rural area and be a registered voter of a county with a population | ||
of less than 150,000; and | ||
(2) at least one member who: | ||
(A) must reside and be a registered voter in a | ||
county bordering the United Mexican States; and | ||
(B) may not be the same member as described by | ||
Subdivision (1). | ||
SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act in the | ||
qualifications of members of the Texas Transportation Commission do | ||
not affect the entitlement of a member serving on the commission | ||
immediately before the effective date of this Act to continue to | ||
serve for the remainder of the member's term. As the terms of | ||
commission members expire, the governor shall appoint or reappoint | ||
a member who has the qualifications required for a member under | ||
Section 201.051, Transportation Code, as amended by this Act. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
