Whereas, the self-discipline and courage he cultivated while in the military served him well during such challenging assignments as Operation Desert Storm. On his return to Chapin, these qualities were to assist him in the new duties he took up when he joined the Lexington County Sheriff's Department. As a dedicated humanitarian, he has earned the gratitude of his fellow citizens for such accomplishments as his 2011 coordination of the first annual Timberlake Triathlon, which resulted in a donation of six thousand dollars to the We Care Center in Chapin. He also coordinated the participation of the Lexington County Sheriff's Department in a drive for Cell Phones for Soldiers. The more than three thousand cellular telephones collected in this effort were sold to buy prepaid telephone calling cards for U.S. military personnel serving our nation outside the United States; and

Whereas, in addition, David Amick coordinated a motorcycle ride that brought in six thousand seven hundred dollars to Honor Flight South Carolina, which provides airline and ground transportation for World War II military veterans to visit military memorials in Washington, D.C. As coordinator of a chili cook-off and car and motorcycle benefit show, he had the satisfaction of seeing two thousand five hundred dollars raised for a college scholarship fund administered by the American Legion for children of U.S. military veterans. He also has assisted area food banks and clean-ups; and

Further, Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts praises him as "an excellent role model for the officers whom he supervises"; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly recognize that the success of the State of South Carolina, the strength of its communities, and the vitality of American society as a whole depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of individuals like Sergeant David Amick who use their talents and resources to serve others.
