A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE EAST CLARENDON HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM ON WINNING THE 2013 CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, fully ready for the challenge, the East Clarendon High School "Lady Wolverines" softball team crowned its splendid season by capturing the 2013 Class A State Championship title, defeating Dixie High School 8-5 at Lexington's White Knoll High School; and

Whereas, in the final of the three-game series on May 17, East Clarendon prevailed, ran home with the title trophy, and found the exultant population of Turbeville out to greet them; and

Whereas, excitement over this championship win was especially intense because it marked East Clarendon's first team title for softball since 2002 and Coach Lisa Ard's first in her twenty-five-year career in softball; and

Whereas, during the title bout, East Clarendon got on the scoreboard first, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Dixie responded with one run in the bottom of the first, with East Clarendon leading 3-1. Near the end of the match, East Clarendon scored three in the top of the seventh inning, and Dixie scored one in the bottom of the seventh, to give the Lady Wolverines the victory; and

Whereas, in a sport that demands skill, quickness, and teamwork, Coach Ard capitalized on her own athletic ability and training to forge a championship team and teach her athletes lessons that will prove invaluable throughout life, both on and off the diamond; and

Whereas, the East Clarendon High School softball players have brought great pride and recognition to their school and community, and their many admirers, including the members of the House of Representatives, look to hear of their continued accomplishments in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the East Clarendon High School softball team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them on winning the 2013 Class A State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Principal Kelvin Lemon and Coach Lisa Ard.
