Honoring Harry Meshel on his Ninetieth Birthday.

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to congratulate Harry Meshel on the celebration of his Ninetieth Birthday; and

WHEREAS, Harry Meshel has witnessed from a unique vantage point the dynamic growth that has taken place in our country and world during the past nine decades. A former administrative assistant to past Youngstown Mayor Anthony Flask and urban renewal director for the City of Youngstown, he served the Ohio Senate for six terms, where he held the posts of majority whip, assistant president pro-tem, minority leader, chairman of the Finance Committee, and president, and he has enthusiastically put forth his best effort in all his endeavors. We applaud him on his numerous contributions; and

WHEREAS, The former chairman of the Ohio Democratic Party, Harry Meshel was appointed to serve as a member of the Youngstown State University Board of Trustees, and he has led an exemplary life, manifesting those virtues we all seek to emulate. A decorated U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he is a fine human being and model citizen, and he has won a host of admirers among his devoted friends and family, including his wife, Judy, and his two children, Barry and Melanie; and

WHEREAS, The hopes and dreams, joys and challenges contained in Harry Meshel's life experiences continue to enhance and enrich his growth as an individual and a community member. As he celebrates his Ninetieth Birthday, he can reflect with fondness on the memories of years past and remember his many accomplishments, including being instrumental in the creation of Meshel Hall at Youngstown State University, the Northeast Ohio Medical University, collective-bargaining laws for public employees, a bill of rights for the handicapped, the Ohio Athletic Commission, CASTLO Community Improvement Corporation, and business incubators, with justifiable pride; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, commend Harry Meshel on the occasion of his Ninetieth Birthday and salute him as one of Ohio's finest citizens; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to Harry Meshel.
