A RESOLUTION
To request the President of the United States to sign 1
the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2
2013, which authorizes appropriations for the 3
Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 for 4
fiscal year 2014 and later fiscal years.5


BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO:

       WHEREAS, The Congress of the United States enacted the 6
Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000, Public Law No. 7
106-386, Division A, for the purpose of combating trafficking in 8
persons, a contemporary manifestation of slavery whose victims are 9
predominantly women and children, to ensure just and effective 10
punishment of traffickers, and to protect their victims; and 11

       WHEREAS, The Congress of the United States authorized 12
appropriations for the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000, 13
Public Law No. 106-386, Division A, as amended, for fiscal years 14
2014 through 2017 as part of the Violence Against Women 15
Reauthorization Act of 2013, S.47 of the 113th Congress; and16

       WHEREAS, The continuation of the combat against trafficking 17
in persons and ensuring the just and effective punishment of 18
traffickers and the protection of their victims is dependent on 19
appropriations for the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 20
for fiscal year 2014 and later fiscal years; and21

       WHEREAS, Attorneys General from across the United States have 22
urged Congress to enact legislation that authorizes appropriations 23
for the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000; and24

       WHEREAS, This legislative body can work in a spirit of 25
cooperation with the efforts of Ohio's Attorney General; now 26
therefore be it 27

       RESOLVED, That the Ohio House of Representatives requests the 28
President of the United States to sign the Violence Against Women 29
Reauthorization Act of 2013, which authorizes appropriations for 30
the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 for fiscal year 31
2014 and later fiscal years; and be it further32

       RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives 33
transmit a duly authenticated copy of this resolution to the 34
President of the United States.35
