AN ACT
To enact section 4731.73 of the Revised Code to require a surgeon performing a mastectomy in a hospital to guide the patient and provide referrals in a manner consistent with the standards of the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers and to name this act the "Lizzie B. Byrd Act."

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Ohio:

SECTION 1.  That section 4731.73 of the Revised Code be enacted to read as follows:

Sec. 4731.73. As used in this section, "NAPBC" means the national accreditation program for breast centers of the American college of surgeons.

A surgeon who will perform a mastectomy in a hospital, or a person designated by the surgeon, shall guide the patient through provided or referred services in a manner that is consistent with NAPBC standards. If a surgeon who is to perform a mastectomy considers breast reconstruction appropriate for the patient, the surgeon or designated person shall offer the patient a preoperative referral to a reconstructive or plastic surgeon in accordance with NAPBC standards.

SECTION 2. This act shall be known as the "Lizzie B. Byrd Act."
