     Requires school districts to provide listing of bus stops near residence of sex offender to law enforcement.

An Act concerning sex offenders and supplementing chapter 7 of Title 2C of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    Every school board shall inform the chief law enforcement officer of the municipality where the school district is located or, if the municipality does not have a local police force, the Superintendent of State Police, of the location of all school bus stops for the purpose of ensuring that the law enforcement agency is aware of school bus stops that are located near the residence of a person who is subject to the registration requirements set forth in P.L.1994, c.133 (C.2C:7-1 et seq.).

 

     2.    This act shall take effect on the first day of the seventh month following enactment.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill requires every school district to provide a listing of the location of all school bus stops to the chief law enforcement officer of the municipality where the school district is located, or if the municipality does not have a local police force, the Superintendent of State Police.  The purpose of this requirement is to ensure that the law enforcement agency is aware of any school bus stops that are located near the residence of a registered sex offender in order to heighten awareness and vigilance for the protection of children in this State.
