Senate Concurrent Resolution 637

(As Adopted by Senate and House)

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE MADISON-RIDGELAND ACADEMY "PATRIOTS" BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACH RICHARD DUEASE FOR WINNING THE 2014 MAIS OVERALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP WHICH IS ITS NINTH OVERALL TITLE.

WHEREAS, Ben Milam and Devin Gilmore each posted double-doubles, and Madison-Ridgeland Academy overcame a slow start to run past Jackson Prep 57-47 in the MAIS Overall Tournament Championship at Mississippi College's A.E. Wood Coliseum on March, 1, 2014.  It is Madison-Ridgeland Academy's ninth Overall Title, and first since 2001, when the Patriots (31-9) won the last of five straight crowns; and

WHEREAS, the Madison-Ridgeland Academy Boys Basketball players celebrated at center court what had eluded the Patriots all season — a Championship.  "After losing those Playoff Tournaments this year, we still knew we had the ultimate goal in our hands," said Milam, who finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds.  "We came out here, and we took it."  Jackson Langcuster and Devon Gilmore scored seven of Madison-Ridgeland Academy's next nine points in a quick unanswered run, and the Patriots never looked back down the stretch; and

WHEREAS, this was the seventh Overall Championship in the last 10 years, led by longtime Madison-Ridgeland Academy Coach Richard Duease; and

WHEREAS, the 2013-2014 Madison-Ridgeland Academy Boys Basketball Team Roster is:  Devon Gilmore, Ethan Evans, Garrett Stringer, Graham Joyner, Karter Bounds, Kory Stephens, Nathan Barr, Noah Joyner, Will Valentine, Austin Waldrop, Dee Brown, Caleb Shufelt, Jackson Langcuster, Bruce Landing, Harper Hudnall, Trea Futral, Ben Milam, Griffin Agent, Clint Moses, Corgan Green, Ryan Kennington and Sean Rawlings; Head Coach Richard Duease; Assistant Coaches Brandon Bolen and Kevin Moses; and

WHEREAS, it is with pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Madison-Ridgeland Academy "Patriots" Boys Basketball Team and Coach Richard Duease for winning the 2014 MAIS Overall State Championship which is its ninth Overall Title, and extend our best wishes for future athletic and academic success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Madison-Ridgeland Academy Coach Duease, Principal Greg Self, forwarded to the Madison-Ridgeland Academy Board of Trustees and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
