2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly are | ||||||
3 | saddened to learn of the death of South Beloit Mayor Michael M. | ||||||
4 | Duffy, who passed away on June 20, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Mayor Duffy was born on April 10, 1946 in Pontiac | ||||||
6 | to Martin and Helen (nee Clark) Duffy; he was a graduate of | ||||||
7 | Pontiac Township High School and went on to
receive his degrees | ||||||
8 | from Illinois State University and the University of Illinois; | ||||||
9 | he was
a Vietnam veteran, serving in the United States Air | ||||||
10 | Force; he married Lori Olson-Coolidge on June 29, 2001 in St. | ||||||
11 | Peter Church in South Beloit; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Mayor Duffy was the former Superintendent of | ||||||
13 | Schools for South Beloit School District #320 and was currently | ||||||
14 | the Superintendent of Schools for Durand School District #322; | ||||||
15 | and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Mayor Duffy was elected mayor of South Beloit in | ||||||
17 | 2011; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Mayor Duffy was on the board of directors for the | ||||||
19 | Rock Energy Co-op and a board member of the
Stateline Boys and | ||||||
20 | Girls Club as well as many other organizations; he was also a
| ||||||
21 | member of South Beloit American Legion Holtz-Hirst Post #288, |

Businessman's Association, the Beloit 20/20 | ||||||
2 | Club, the Northern Illinois Rotary Club, the Illinois
Municipal | ||||||
3 | League, the Greater Beloit Chamber of Commerce, the Northern | ||||||

Association, Greater Rockford Economics | ||||||
5 | Development Groups, the South Beloit Health
Advisory | ||||||
6 | Committee, and Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church; and

7 | WHEREAS, Mayor Duffy was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
8 | brother, Roger Duffy; and brother-in-law, Michael
Kilmer; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Mayor Duffy is survived by his wife, Lori Duffy; | ||||||
10 | children, Erin (Michael) Duffy
Jensen, Megan Duffy, Ryan Duffy, | ||||||
11 | Cyle
Coolidge, and Kelsey (Andrew) Mix; granddaughter,
McKenna | ||||||
12 | Jensen; brother, Paul (Carol) Duffy; sister, Ann Duffy; | ||||||
13 | sisters-in-law, Patty Duffy and Lisa Kilmer; and
numerous | ||||||
14 | nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
16 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
17 | we mourn the passing of South Beloit Mayor Michael M. Duffy, | ||||||
18 | and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and | ||||||
19 | all who knew and loved him; and be it further
| ||||||
20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
21 | presented to the family of Mayor Duffy as an expression of our | ||||||
22 | deepest sympathy.
