1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to recognize the Village of Fairmont City | ||||||
4 | on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of its founding; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, On February 11, 1914, a petition was filed with | ||||||
6 | St. Clair County to incorporate the Village of Fairmont City, | ||||||
7 | and on March 3, 1914, with a population of over 300, the | ||||||
8 | citizens voted in favor of incorporation; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Shortly after incorporation, ordinances were | ||||||
10 | passed officially creating the village, establishing the | ||||||
11 | municipal offices, and defining the responsibilities of office | ||||||
12 | holders; the budget for 1915 was established at $5,100; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, The first mayor of Fairmont City was Philip H. | ||||||
14 | Cohn; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, As of 2010, Fairmont City boasts a population of | ||||||
16 | over 2,600 people and stretches between St. Clair and Madison | ||||||
17 | counties; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, The citizens of Fairmont City will celebrate its | ||||||
19 | founding on October 18, 2014, beginning with a parade to | ||||||
20 | Grandby Park, and ending with the activation of the park's new |

1 | lighting; therefore, be it

2 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
3 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
4 | we recognize the 100th anniversary of the founding of the | ||||||
5 | Village of Fairmont City; and be it further
| ||||||
6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
7 | presented to Fairmont City Mayor Alex Bregen as a symbol of our | ||||||
8 | respect and esteem.
