HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Joanna
Sojka; and
WHEREAS, Joanna Sojka attended Northwestern University,
where she studied economics, political science, and
international studies and earned her Master of Science in
Administration and Social Policy; and
WHEREAS, Joanna Sojka was employed as Coordinator of
Business and Financial Services at the University of Illinois
at Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Joanna Sojka was elected to serve as the 7th Ward
Alderman in Des Plaines in May of 2013; as Alderman, she served
as Chair of the Public Works Committee, Vice-Chair of the
Community Services Committee, and member of the Building Codes
Committee; she also served as City Liaison of the Board of
Trustees History Center; and
WHEREAS, As Alderman, Joanna Sojka was well known by her
peers and constituents for her enthusiasm, her vast community
and professional knowledge, and her great dedication to Des
Plaines' 7th Ward and its diverse residents; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of
Joanna Sojka; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Joanna Sojka as an expression of our
sympathy.
