HOUSE BILL NO. 255

AN ACT TO AMEND TITLE 21 OF THE DELAWARE CODE RELATING TO DRIVER'S LICENSE AND VETERAN IDENTIFICATION.


BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF DELAWARE:


Section 1.Amend §2718, Title 21 of the Delaware Code by making deletions as shown by strike through and insertions as shown by underline as follows:

§ 2718.Information on licenses.

(g) The Division of Motor Vehicles shall provide a method for permitting a person making application for a license or identification card, or for renewal thereof, to have designated thereon that the person is a veteran upon provision of sufficient documentation of that status as determined by the Director. For purposes of this subsection, "veteran" means any person who served in the U.S. armed forces and was discharged under conditions other than dishonorable.

Section 2. This Act shall take effect 180 days after its enactment into law.


SYNOPSIS

This bill would add information regarding veteran status to the Delaware Driver's License or Identification Card upon request.This would eliminate the need for a veteran to carry a separate card or official discharge papers in order to prove their service.
