AN ACT
establshing the joint legislative study committee on rural teacher retention.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:
Section 1. Joint legislative study committee on rural teacher retention; membership; duties; report; delayed repeal
A. The joint legislative study committee on rural teacher retention is established consisting of the following members:
1. The chairperson of the house of representatives education committee.
2. Two additional members of the house of representatives, each of whom is a member of a different political party, who are appointed by the speaker of the house of representatives.
3. The chairperson of the senate education committee.
4. Two additional members of the senate, each of whom is a member of a different political party, who are appointed by the president of the senate.
5. The governor, or the governor's designee.
6. A member of a nonprofit organization dedicated to education who is appointed by the speaker of the house of representatives.
7. A member of the business community who is appointed by the president of the senate.
8. A representative of an organization of teachers in this state who is appointed by the speaker of the house of representatives.
B. The chairperson of the education committee of the house of representatives, or the chairperson's designee, shall serve as the chairperson of the study committee.
C. The committee shall:
1. Study practices and policies that improve rural teacher retention.
2. Submit a report of its findings and recommendations on or before December 31, 2014 to the governor, the president of the senate and the speaker of the house of representatives and provide a copy of this report to the secretary of state.
D. This section is repealed from and after February 15, 2015.
